Top Ten Viral Videos In January 2010

Internet videos created to raise awareness of AIDS, and to promote soft drinks and athletic shoes, are high on the list of the top-10 viral and up-and-coming-viral campaigns selected by video-content distributor goviralas the most interesting and innovative in January 2010.

Unlike the December 2009 videos compiled by goviral, many of which focused on environmental- and health-related causes, the January 2010 videos were lighter in tone, with the notable exception of two videos focused on the continuing need for AIDS awareness and prevention. One of these videos, “Graffiti” by French HIV/AIDS organization AIDES, ranked number one for the month.

Beyond the two AIDS-themed videos, the other eight videos used devices including ninjas, stop-motion photography, puppets, tattoos, and magical vending machines to promote an array of products.

In a similarity to December 2009, most of the videos that made the top 10 list in January 2010 featured global themes and messaging that can easily cross cultures. For example, although a video promoting Nike basketball features puppets of NBA stars Kobe Bryant and LeBron James, those two athletes have international fame and appeal. The only video that was truly US-centric was the 10th-ranked video, featuring American customers of Domino’s Pizza explaining why they didn’t like Domino’s old recipe.
